Micah B. Schnurstein, LCSW aims to provide evidence-based interventions to athletes, performers, and entertainers looking to increase mental health and performance within their individual sport, profession, or life. As a former professional athlete, Micah combines his personal experience with his expertise in mental health to enhance performance and mindfulness in the most stressful moments in competition.
It can be difficult to talk about challenges related to performance within sports and the workplace, which can lead to prolonged suffering and decreased ability to function at your peak levels. Micah will work with you to explore current challenges, learn skills to identify values within your sport, and develop specific goals to work towards those values. Micah understands from firsthand experience the impact that mental health and stress can have on performance at elite levels. He can support you in your journey to better cope with difficulties in performance, injury recovery, retirement, anxiety, and depression. Micah's general approach to treatment includes:
Micah creates a safe and nonjudgmental place for athletes to discuss current stressors and challenges related to mental health and performance. Micah understands it can be difficult for elite athletes in accessing care or asking for support. Micah provides a safe space to do this for athletes and helps increase knowledge about current challenges through psychoeducation.
Micah aims to teach athletes tools and skills from empirically-supported treatments to support increased performance in clients' sport or workplace. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are the two main treatment approaches used by Micah. Skills can be applied directly to each athlete's individual sport and the environments they practice and live in.
Micah understands the importance of having a network that includes quality providers in the greater area of Las Vegas. Micah will assess for client needs and provide resources and support in connecting to referrals. Having a community network helps to create environments that best support client health, functioning, and performance.
